Stereoview

"High Banks, Genesee River, below Portage N.Y"

From T.D. Tooker's "Gallery of Photographs"

Newark, NY

1870's

This view, taken over 125 years ago, can still be seen today as you enter the Park at the Castile Entrance. Today it is known as "Big Bend" or "Great Bend" which was formed by the meandering Genesee River thousands of years ago. Some 19th century visitors called this the "Devil's Saddle". The image was taken looking east with the Genesee River curving through the gorge at the base of the towering cliff.

T.D. Tooker also worked out of Avon NY. His views of the Portage area are hard to find but interesting to view.
