The community of Portageville is located just south of the Park, up river from the Portage Bridge. This view shows the town from the eastern bank of the Genesee Valley The closeup of Portageville found below shows the great Aqueduct of the Genesee Valley Canal. It is found to the right of the buildings - its arches towering over the Genesee River. Some of the Aqueduct's piers and wing walls are still visible when you drive through the area today.

We have other images of the stone Aqueduct and the Genesee Valley Canal in our historical photo album. Also see Image 165 for a view of Portageville from the west.
